This Day That Age
The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, declared in New Delhi on December 28 that our education system should be devised in such a way that a person got the right kind of education which should equip him for the job most suited to his particular aptitude. It would be better if a process of selection was gone through when students applied for higher education. Only those should be admitted to higher institutions of learning who really could benefit from it. Inaugurating the 30th All-India Educational Conference, he said: "As far as I know, we have not succeeded till now in this work of changing the education system to suit the needs of independent India. I would even say that we have failed to put in the efforts - which we should have done by now - to change the education system to suit new conditions. It is an accepted principle that the child's future is moulded by the training and education given to him in his young days. This training will be worth nothing if it does not equip a young man to discharge properly the work entrusted to him in later life."
