dated December 30, 1955: Tribute to Vallathol

Mr. M.A. Menshikov, Soviet Ambassador in India, who arrived in Cheruthruthi on December 27 to participate in the Kerala Kalamandalam Silver Jubilee celebrations, was accorded a warm reception. Speaking on the occasion, he said it gave him great pleasure to be present at the function, organised by the Kerala Kalamandalam with Poet Vallathol at the head of it. Vallathol's name, he said, was well known not only in Kerala or India, but also outside, especially in the Soviet Union. "I am glad to take this opportunity to express my best wishes for the further success of the Kerala Kalamandalam. As a token of my deep appreciation of the founder of this institution and his noble work, I would like to present Poet Vallathol with a modest gift of a piece of Russian handicraft, with a portrait of the great Russian poet Pushkin."
