Maharashtra eves have it easy

HYDERABAD: Last year's runner-up Maharashtra women scored a comfortable 56-14 win over Bihar in the league match of the 53rd senior National kabaddi championship for men and women here on Thursday.

Powered by yet another efficient performance from raiders Lata Panchal and Monika Shinde, the Maharashtra girls dished out a professional display keeping the rivals at bay when it mattered most. For Bihar only Sunitha Kumari made any impression.

In another women's league match, Andhra edged out a fighting Manipur 25-23 in the closest match so far thanks to international Swetha doubling up as a raider and catcher. Kunjitha was Manipur's star performer.

In the evening session, one of the players, Babli, was taken ill with acute stomach pain and was rushed to hospital by Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj, president of HKA.
