GULBARGA: Tension prevailed in Sathkhed village in Jewargi taluk in Gulbarga district on Thursday following stone pelting by Dalits. The trouble started in the afternoon when Devappa Kumbar, a Dalit objected to the construction of compound wall at the Raja Fakir Dargah in the village since there was a dispute regarding the same. Kallaiah Swamy, who was constructing the compound wall, and Basaiah Swamy, entered into an argument with Devappa Kumbar. Later, Kallaiah Swamy and Kumbar are said to have assaulted each other. Kallaiah Swamy's sons allegedly beat up Kumbar.
Dalits pelt stones
When the news of Kumbar's assault spread to the Dalit colony, more than 100 Dalits came in a procession and pelted stones and also beat up Kallaiah Swamy and his sons. The police rushed to the village and brought the situation under control. Superintendent of Police Dr K. Ramachandra Rao and senior police officials are camping in the village. Additional police force has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure. Armed policemen are guarding the Dalit colony. No arrests have been made.
