Former British pop star Paul Gadd
The disgraced former pop star Gary Glitter has paid £2,275 to the families of two Vietnamese girls he is accused of sexually assaulting after they agreed to write to the authorities asking that the case be dropped, his lawyer has said. The admission comes as prosecutors in Vung Tau, where Mr. Glitter was living and allegedly sleeping in the same bed with girls as young as 11, said they had insufficient evidence to charge the singer with rape. This means he is likely be charged with the lesser offence of engaging in obscene acts with a child, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in jail as opposed to a potential death sentence for rape. Mr. Glitter (61), whose real name is Paul Gadd, was arrested on November 19 at Ho Chi Minh City airport while trying to flee to Thailand after allegations that he had sexually molested at least six underage girls in his house. He denies the charges.
