Easy for top teams

CHENNAI: Of the top 16 seeds, except Chatterji team, all others made it to the top in the 47th National bridge championship here on Thursday.

The 32 teams and the draw are as follows:

Railways A vs Mohota Nagpur, Formidable vs Thakunde, India Blue vs L.J. Thomas, Dhampur Sugar vs Indra Dhanush, Agsar Paints vs Basu Muzumdar, Railways C vs Ajinkya, Tolani Shipping vs Hotel Nest, C.V. Rao vs BDBU (Green), Chari vs Maya Mira, Manyvar vs Kamalesh Gupta, Radhye vs Pankaj Kapadia, Monotona vs Agarwal Hyderabad, Trambak Rubber vs Pallavi, Ashok Daga vs Sri Lanka, JP Goenka vs Well Knit and Indian Railways C vs Navayuga.

Earlier, Dhampur Sugar Mills' team topped the list of 64 qualifiers with 160 Victory Points (VPs) out of a possible 175 VPs.

Kamalesh Gupta Team (156 VPs) occupied the second slot.

Other 12 placings: 3. Agsar Paints (155), 4. Monotana (151), 5. Nalco (150), 6. Indian Railways B (148), 7. Formidables (145), 8. Manyvar (145), 9. Mohota (144), 10. Trambak Rubber (143), 11. SDSC SHAR (139), 12. Nest Inn (137).

The qualifiers will play again three knockout matches (12 boards each) and the field will be brought down to 16 by Thursday night. Pre-quarterfinal matches will be played on Friday.

The 66 teams which have not qualified have an option either to play Swiss League for the Ruia Silver Trophy or IMP Pairs for the Kamalakar Trophy.
