NEW DELHI: The country's top defence and nuclear scientists and major defence installations were on Thursday given heightened security cover in the wake of the attack on the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Officials said key Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists, including missile scientists in Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Kanpur, Gwalior and Bangalore had been provided additional personal security. Hours after unidentified gunmen struck at the IISc premises, top defence security officials held a meeting and Quick Reaction Teams were deployed at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Aircraft Development Agency, IAF Training Command headquarters and Yelhanka air base. More personal armed security guards would be provided for top defence scientists, they said. Security was also beefed up at vital DRDO and Bharat Dynamics Limited establishments in Hyderabad. The security cover for the Indian Science Congress to be held in Hyderabad has been reviewed and more stringent measures would be put in place, officials said. "All major Defence Research and Development Organisation establishments, particularly missile, space and nuclear establishments, have been provided with a new stepped-up security ring," officials said. The Human Resource Development Ministry has written to all Central universities and institutions under it, including the Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Management, to review their security arrangements in the wake of the attack.
