TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has strongly defended the proposal to lay a ropeway between Tirupati and Tirumala, calling it an "innovative technology" that could make Tirumala pilgrimage better in more ways than one. The TTD Trust Boardhaddecided to go ahead. Speaking to mediapersons on his arrival at the helipad here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the failure-proof system had been running efficiently for the last several years in pilgrim centres such as Hardwar and Palani (Tamil Nadu). He said the Government would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of the pilgrims. Dr. Reddy also stressed the need for a less-polluting mode of transport to make Tirumala a greener place. "The ropeway is totally eco-friendly and will eliminate pollution to a great extent," he said.
