Nilay Kumar takes the honours

KOLKATA: Nilay Kumar of RVC Centre, Meerut won the children's I show-jumping recording the best timing in the junior National equestrian championship here at the Tollygunge Club on Thursday.

Kumar riding Guddu clocked 25.22 seconds which was the best among the top four riders who incurred zero penalties. Rebha Mehta of the host club won the silver riding Sophisticated Lady while Hasan M. Khan of EAP, Pune won the bronze astride Blackie.

Five countries, including Korea, USA, Australia, and Kyrgyzstan apart from host India, will participate in the CSI (Y) international show-jumping, which starts here on Friday. The competition will be held in two categories - team and individual - and will give the country's riders a scope to match their skills with the more developed powers of the world.

As the host India will be fielding two teams. Team `A' will have the best three performers of the National young rider show-jumping - Sudhir Singh (PBG, Delhi), Ranvir Nanda (PAE, Pune) and Udai Singh (61st Cavalry). The team `B' will accommodate the other three promising riders - Aliya Dasgupta (Embassy, Bangalore), Anant Agnihotri (ECE, Bangalore) and Swr. Pawan Kumar (RVC, Meerut).

The results:

National children's I show-jumping: 1. Nilay Kumar (RVC Centre, Meerut) on Guddu - 0 penalties/time 25.22 secs; 2. Rebha Mahta (Tollygunge Club) on Sophisticated Lady - 0/27.39 secs; 3. Hasan M. Khan (EAP, Pune) on Blackie - 0/27.81 secs.

National children's I dressage: 1. Adhiraj Mukherjee (Tollygunge Club) on Legal Steps - 296 points; 2. Krish Ajmera (Tolly Club) on Playboy - 289; 3. Ashray Butta (Tolly Club) on First Crush - 284.

National children's I hacks: 1. Karan Virwani (Embassy, Bangalore) on Slash - 39; 2. Raunak Banerjee (Tolly Club) on Not Out - 38; 3. Tanya Dutta (RVC Centre) on Pronto - 37.
