Demand for LCD meters
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The LCD meters developed at the United Electrical Industries, a Kerala Government undertaking based in Kollam, are finding markets in other States.
Recently it won a contract worth Rs.25 crores from the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board, which wants five lakh digital meters within six months.
Managing Director A.S.M. Sherif told mediapersons here on Thursday that the digital meter, which is entirely new to the markets, has been recognised by Central Power Research Institute, a Central Government owned laboratory. The Kerala State Electricity Board had ordered five lakh meters.
Mr. Sherif said the meter makes use of a sophisticated technology which enabled consumers to know the unit of power consumed as well as identify any connected load. The Ministers for Finance, Industries and Electricity had seen the meters and were satisfied with the quality, he added.
