Bangalore: Veteran journalist K. Raja Rao (70) passed away at the Mallya Hospital here on Thursday following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Mr. Raja Rao, who was the news coordinator of Siti Cable, a cable TV network, was for long associated with the Kannada daily Samyukta Karnataka, which he joined in 1960. He had worked in various branches in that newspaper. Hailing from Tumkur, Karnam Raja Rao also had a good command of Telugu.
A popular figure
A popular figure in the State's journalistic and political circles, he was known as a "scoop journalist". Though he began his career as a crime reporter, he developed into a leading political analyst. One of the scoops which brought him fame was the "Sumitra Desai scandal" (1973), which led to the resignation of then Minister of State for Home R.D. Kittur from the Devaraj Urs Ministry. Mr. Raja Rao was a self-educated journalist, though he was a student in the Department of Kannada, Bangalore University. The Karnataka Union of Working Journalists has mourned his death. Last year, Mr. Raja Rao was felicitated by the Press Club of Bangalore.
