Bangalore: Infosys Technologies on Thursday recognised the contributions of its employees to the company and society, at the Infosys Awards for Excellence programme here. The awards, which were first presented in 1995 to three persons in one category, were given away to 336 winners in 14 categories at nine Infosys Development Centres in the country. Shabana Azmi, actress and activist, who was the chief guest at the event, addressed a gathering of Infosys employees and their families through a video broadcast from the Bangalore Development Centre. Ms. Azmi said excellence is not an act but a habit. "It is a quality of the heart and not just of the intellect. It cannot be postponed. Excellence is a process, not a result. It is a verb and not an adjective; it is human, not divine." Infosys Chairman and Chief Mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy presented the awards to the winners, recognized in various fields, such as Technology Champions, Customer Delight and Social Consciousness. He said: "Infoscions bring much more to the table than simply their technical expertise. They also bring leadership and social awareness. This event is about recognising them for their contributions, in and out of office, which allows Infosys to create an extraordinary work environment that fosters outstanding achievements."
For society
Winners of the Social Consciousness award included Akanksha, a group of Infoscions from the Bhubaneswar Development Centre. The award recognised their contributions to the community. Some of the other recipients of the award included Nithya Prabhakar of Mangalore and Satish Suri of Hyderabad.
