BANGALORE: Kannadigas should realise the need to work for the cause of their language and culture and participate in meaningful programmes, Minister for Health and Family Welfare N. Cheluvaraya Swamy has said.

He was speaking at a function organised by the Vishwa Manava Association to observe the 101st birth anniversary of Jnanpith Award winner late Ku. Vem. Pu. here on Thursday.

The habit of exhibiting love for Kannada only during November, when programmes to mark Rajyotsava Day are held, will not help the cause, he said.

The association conferred Vishwa Manava Award, named after Ku. Vem. Pu's philosophy of how mankind should be, on former Chairman of the All-India Council for Technical Education S. Rame Gowda.

It felicitated talented students on the occasion.

Association president H.P. Jagadish welcomed the gathering.

Former Minister H.N. Nanje Gowda presided over the function.
