KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy asserted on Thursday that the relief and rehabilitation package offered by the Government to people displaced under the Polavaram irrigation project was the best in the country. Dr. Reddy, who made brief stopover at the Kadapa aerodrome en route Hyderabad, told newsmen that the Government would do justice to displaced persons and land losers by ensuring their rehabilitation. On Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu's plan to join the Left to espouse the cause of the project-displaced, Dr. Reddy said: "Leave alone the Opposition, the Congress is more concerned about the displaced persons than any other party." Asked about the controversy over the decision to augment the capacity of Pothireddypadu head regulator, he said unanimity in opinion was reached at a recent all-party meeting. "If anybody has further doubts, we will certainly clarify them," he added. The Government was going all out to expeditiously complete irrigation projects, Dr. Reddy said.
Satellite City
Asked about the reported stoppage of investigation and land survey on Telugu Ganga and Galeru- Nagari projects due to objections raised by the Forest Department, he consulted Collector G. Ashok Kumar and said that the issue was "sorted out." Earlier, the Chief Minister inspected Satellite City, a township of 4,000 houses under construction near Thollagangannapalle. When a visually challenged degree first year student K. Dastagiri of Tangutur in Rajupalem mandal sought Dr. Reddy's help to secure admission to Government Blind Home at Chittoor, he promised extend all help. Dr. Reddy, on a representation by Rajampet MP A. Sai Prathap, asked the Collector to preserve lands in the vicinity of Kadapa aerodrome for developing it in due course. Dr. Reddy left by helicopter along with his wife Vijayalakshmi at 3.25 p.m.
