Safdar Hashmi Memorial

NEW DELHI: The 17th Safdar Hashmi Memorial will be held at Vithal Bhai Patel House here on Rafi Marg on January 1. This year's memorial is dedicated

to 75 years of the historic Dandi March by Mahatma Gandhi.

The highlight of the programme will be

Dhrupad singing by internationally-acclaimed musicians Ramakant and Umakant Gundecha. Other programmes include a specially choreographed modern dance

presentation by eminent dancer Astad Deboo and poetry rendition by Mita Pandit, Madangopal Singh and Vidya Shah.

Water supply at low pressure

NEW DELHI: Due to annual flushing of overhead tank

and underground reservoirs, water supply will be available at low pressure in some parts of the Capital this Saturday.

The affected areas include Sectors D-1, D-2, D-3 and D-4 of Vasant Kunj; Block 5 Sector-8 of Rohini; MIG and LIG flats of Prasad Nagar; Yamuna Vihar; Bhajanpura; Gamri and Subhash Mohalla.

Residents of these areas have been advised to store water in advance. Water tankers will be available at telephone Nos. 27304656, 27128612 (Ashok Vihar), 26132160, 26132161 (Vasant Kunj), 22812683 (Yamuna Vihar) and 22814651 (Loni Road).

Prime Minister's relief fund

NEW DELHI: Employees of Delhi Transco have contributed a day's salary amounting to Rs.4.89 lakhs towards the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

A cheque for the amount was presented to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit by the company's Chairman and Managing Director Arun Goyal on Thursday.

New appointment

NEW DELHI: Northern Railway Additional General Manager V. K. Kaul has been appointed the new General Manager of Central Railway, while Northern Railway's Principal Chief Engineer S. K. Vij will now head the North-Eastern Railway as its new General Manager.

A Railway Engineering Service officer of 1971 Batch, Mr. Kaul has held several important posts at different locations and is also associated with Northern Railway's ambitious Jammu-Baramulla project.

DDA park sought

NEW DELHI: Children living in the DDA Colony at Masjid Moth have sought Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's help in restoring a six-acre DDA park adjoining the colony.

The children met Ms. Dikshit on Thursday and complained that the residents of the colony were not being allowed entry to the park and had been deprived of fresh air and exercise in the congested residential area as the DDA had sold the park to Delhi Transco. They demanded that it be handed over to the public.
