Book on maritime trade

It has several photographs

CHENNAI: A book on maritime trade in Tamil (Kadal Vazhi Vanibam), authored by K.R.A. Narasiah, was released by S. V. Chittibabu, former Vice Chancellor Annamalai University, at a function here on Wednesday.

The 400-page book with several colour and black and white photographs and maps, deals with all aspects of sea trade India had with various nations right from 3rd century B. C. to the present day, with special reference to the way Britishers systematically destroyed the Indian sea trade and made the Bay of Bengal the graveyard of the Indian Shipping.

Dr. R. Krishnamurthy Editor Dinamalar and a world-renowned numismatist received the first copy. Dr. Shanmugam, Former professor and head of department of ancient history Madras University, and Dr. Thiruppur Krishnan Editor Amudhasurabhi were among those participated.

There was all-round praise for the production quality of the book and the pains taken by Palaniappa Bros., the publishers. Dr. Rajagopal and Sivanandan of the State Archaeology department were honoured on the occasion for their assistance in bringing out the book.
