Discounts on literature

CHENNAI : The Ramakrishna Math is offering a special discount of 10-40% on Ramakrishna-Vivekananda and Vedanta literature on January 1, 2006. This is to commemorate Kalpataru Day or Self-Revelation Day of Ramakrishna on January 1, 1886.

Guest lecture

The Commerce department of GSS Jain College organised a guest lecture on `Export procedures and documents' by J. Krishnan, partner, S. Natesiyer & Company, on Tuesday. He spoke on the various procedures involved in exporting, with particular reference to Airways.

Charity drive

To mark the 1st anniversary of Lions Club of Shakthi, members of the club supplied the requirements of 38 children of Kalaiselvi Karunalaya Social Welfare Society, at a function organised in Chennai on Wednesday.

PG studies, research centre

The Centre for PG Studies and Research was inaugurated at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Thandalam on Tuesday.

The centre will be a nodal point for all research activities in various departments of the college.

Free eye screening camp

Rajan Eye Care hospital, in association with Bank of Maharashtra, T.Nagar branch conducted a free eye screening camp on Thursday. Over 100 patients were examined and 12 patients were referred for cataract surgery.

Free medicines and spectacles were given to 15 patients.

Van donated to hospital

P. Chaudhuri, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Chennai circle donated a Maruti Omni van to P.A.Kodandarama Chetty, President, Hindu Mission Health Services on Tuesday. The van was worth Rs. 2.87 lakhs.

Christmas celebration

The tsunami relief and rehabilitation work team of Christ Faith Home for Children, which has been working in Uyyalikuppam and Pudupattinam near Kalpakkam, celebrated Christmas on Wednesday. Maida Raja, President, Christ Faith Home for Children, took part in a Santa Claus dance with children from the villages.

The team has donated 2 motorboats to six families of Pudupattinam, fishing nets to 98 families and 6.5 tonnes of rice.

Counselling programme

Dr. Yohaman T. Abraham, Director, International Business Studies, Missouri State University, U.S., will be visiting the International School for Management Studies on January 3, 2006.

A career-counselling programme will be organised at the MSSW campus at 32, Casa Major Road, Egmore between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
