Bomb threat to Bangalore
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Even as the city police were in a twist, verifying anonymous calls about bomb threats in Bangalore, newspaper offices here received a faxed letter on Thursday night that claimed that six "Al-Jihadis" were in the city to take the life of hundreds of New Year revellers at a hotel here.
Addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the letter from "Moinuddin" warned that three powerful bombs would go off at the hotel at 10.30 p.m. when hundreds of people would be celebrating the arrival of the New Year.
At the same time, two other human bombs "Sarla and Haneef" would trigger a blast at the Chief Minister's residence, the letter said.
The statement, typed in capital letters, was addressed to the Commissioner of Police. Copies of the letter were marked to the Chief Minister and five English newspapers in the city.
Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh said he had not personally received the letter but had arranged to get a copy from a newspaper office. "I am getting a copy collected. The letter talks about December 31. We still have time," he said.
