No "pressure group" in UPA

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Nationalist Congress Party on Thursday denied news reports that suggested attempts were underway to create a pressure group within the United Progressive Alliance.

Reacting to television reports, the NCP in a statement "strongly denied" the formation of a "sub-group within the UPA along with any other constituents." It said there was no truth in the reports that the group was to meet in January. "There is no question of any meeting either in January or in future; more so when such a group does not exist. This report is false and mischievous," the NCP said in a statement.

RJD spokesman Sanjay Paswan termed as baseless all reports suggesting the creation of a pressure group. "Nothing tangible has happened. No such meeting is in the pipeline. Coalition partners talk to each other, but that does not mean there is any attempt to disturb the UPA Government," he told The Hindu .

The Congress dismissed the reports as "rumours."
