RBI to issue new Rs. 500 notes

Hyderabad: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly issue Rs. 500 denomination bank notes with inset letter `R' in both numbering panel in Mahatma Gandhi series - 2005 bearing the signature of Y.V. Reddy, Governor, Reserve Bank of India.

Except for the change in inset letter, the design of these notes would be similar in all respects with the notes issued with additional security features in October.

All bank notes in the denomination of Rs. 500 issued after 1987 will continue to be legal tender, according to an official press release issued here on Thursday.
