Kochi: Campuses here turned favourite haunts for companies that looked for talent in 2005. The who's who of the Indian information technology industry visited them for recruitments.

The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) bettered its record in campus placements this year, with more than 250 final-year students landing plum jobs in leading companies across the country.

Cusat had set a record in campus recruitment in 2004, with over 200 of its final year B.Tech. students getting placements a year before passing out. Wipro, Infosys, TCS and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) took several students.

Students from the electronics branch in the School of Engineering and the Cochin University College of Engineering got selected in the first phase of recruitment.

Companies also took students from computer science and information technology branches.

The MCA department also shared laurels, with students finding placement. Graduate salaries were between Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 2.5 lakhs a year.

Students of the Model Engineering College also landed plum jobs.

Those who had already been placed will pass out only in June 2006. Companies that recruited students include Wipro, CTS and L&T Infotech.

Students were offered salaries ranging from Rs. 2.3 lakhs to Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

Between February and April this year, companies recruited 71 students from various streams of the Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery. And, the companies that come to the campus for recruitment include Eicher Motors, Lucent Technologies, HCL Infinet Ltd., MRF Industries and V-Guard Industries, among several others.

A placement cell was opened in the polytechnic with assistance from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC).
