Protest against change in ORR alignment

Staff Reporter

`Notified alignment will hit lakes, approved layouts and prized land'

  • Association members for shifting of current alignment of ORR to originally planned site
  • Re-aligned ORR to affect 120 acres of land
  • Selfish motive alleged in move to change alignment

HYDERABAD: The Association of Owners of lands and properties in Kandlakoi and Goudavalli has protested against the recent notification for the realigned Outer Ring Road passing through Kandlakoi village.

The recently notified alignment would affect lakes--Nagula Kunta (13 acres) in Kandlakoi village, Goudavelli Pedda Cheruru (60 acres) and Bommai Kunta (30 acres), approved HUDA layouts, expensive land, agricultural land and poultry farms belonging to small farmers, it said.

The villagers staged a protest on Tuesday near Kandlakoi village and submitted a representation to the Project Director, ORR, and other officials to amend the present notification No.207.

    `Shift ORR'

The association members in a representation to the Government have appealed to shift the ORR from its current alignment at Kandlakoi village to what was originally planned at Athivelli village beyond Medchal on NH 7 or consider expanding the existing R&B road of 120 ft as it was close to the currently proposed ORR at Kandlakoi village. The R&B road, which was like a ring road, passed through the Narsapur Highway, Miyapur, Medchal checkpost, NH 7, Shamirpet, Rajiv Rahadari and Ghatkesar, they said.

The above two suggestions would reduce the cost for the Government significantly and save several small farmers from losing their livelihood, they maintained.

Coordinator-cum-convenor of the association Surender Reddy in a release said that while the earlier ORR junction affected some 40 acres of land, the present re-aligned ORR would affect 120 acres. It was alleged that the alignment was changed to protect the interests of a few influential people at the cost of several lakes and catchment areas, he said.
