Man gets life term

BANGALORE: The 12th Additional City Sessions Court has sentenced Younis Khan to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,100 on finding him guilty of causing death of his wife Noorjahan.

In March 1997, Noorjahan, being allegedly harassed by her husband and his relatives for dowry, set herself ablaze and died in a hospital. Before her death, she filed a complaint with Bharati Nagar police against her husband, father, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. The Corps of Detectives, which took up investigation, filed a charge-sheet against all the four persons.

Seven years jail

The third Additional Sessions Court has sentenced Sham Singh to five years of rigorous imprisonment on finding him guilty of causing death of his wife Rukmini Bai. The court imposed a fine of Rs. 16,000.

It was in April 1993 that Rukmini Bai committed suicide by hanging. Rukmini's father lodged a complaint with Hebbal police station against Sham Singh, his father Ramsingh, his mother Sarasubai, his sister Kasturibai, and his brother Narasing Bhavan Singh.
