MANGALORE: The Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha swamiji of Krishnapur Mutt of Udupi will perform "purapravesha" on January 4 to ascend the 750-year-old "Sarvajna Peetham" on January 18, in Udupi. With this will begin his two-year Paryaya (administration of Udupi Krishna temple) period. Civic Reception Committee working president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura told presspersons here on Friday that the swamiji will reach Mangalore on Sunday and will go to Udupi on January 4 where he will be received by the Diwan of the Krishnapur Mutt and the citizens during the "Purapravesha" ceremony. The swamiji will visit various temples in the city and meet the devotees. He will be taken in a procession in the city starting from the Sharavu temple at 5 p.m. and will be taken to the Town Hall where he will be given a civic reception under the leadership of the Mayor of Mangalore K. Ashraf. Honorary president of the reception committee A. Raghavendra Rao has appealed to the people of Mangalore to participate in good numbers in the "Horae Kanike" procession, which will be taken from Mangalore to Udupi on January 16. Udupi Staff Correspondent reports: Paryaya Reception Committee general secretary, Heranje Krishna Bhat said that the procession for the "pura pravesha" will begin at 4.30 p.m. from Jodu Katte in the city and will culminate at the Car Street. The swamiji would enter Krishnapur Mutt at 6.55 p.m. A civic reception in his honour will be held at the Car Street at 7.30 p.m. From January 9, the "Saptotsava" will be held. The "Horekanike" procession will be held from January 12 to 16. The procession will have two divisions. One division would begin from the north and the other from the south of Udupi.
