COIMBATORE: A group of wetgrinder manufacturers here have formed a consortium to export to new markets. The Coimbatore Wetgrinder and Accessories Manufacturers' Association and the Small Industries Service Institute are jointly implementing a cluster programme for the wetgrinder units helping them explore new markets in the country and abroad and provide technical guidance to improve the product. A couple of consortiums are already functioning in this cluster for raw material purchase. The export consortium has eight units that will start marketing to new international markets. A few units are now exporting directly, mainly to the West Asian countries, products worth about Rs. 20 crores. A business visit to Singapore and Malaysia is planned for next year.
Preliminary stage
An official of the SISI explained that these countries had a lot of Indians and they could be trade centres too. Wetgrinders could be sold to other countries with dealers in these markets, he said. However, this plan was still in the preliminary stage. The SISI also proposed to organise a business meeting in Chennai next year. Corporate representatives would be invited and presentations would be made on the products made by some of the SISI consortiums. The official added that only in case of marketing to the U.S. or to Canada, wetgrinder manufacturers here should change the motors to suit these countries.
