SEEKING REDRESSAL: Councillor Veena Neelagiri presenting her case to the Davangere CMC authorities on Saturday.
DAVANGERE: The father and relatives of a woman councillor entered the meeting hall of the Davangere City Municipal Council when a meeting was on and started shouting slogans against senior councillor and former President of the <129>municipality D. Basavaraj. Interestingly, both the woman and Mr. Basavaraj are from the Congress. Neelagiri, father of Veena Neelagiri, and others entered the hall and took objection to the reported remarks by Mr. Basavaraj against Ms. Neelagiri in a meeting held a few days ago to discuss the use of grants sanctioned under a scheme. They alleged that Mr. Basavaraj addressed Ms. Neelagiri disrespectfully. Councillors, President Shivanahalli Ramesh and Commissioner Narayanappa were taken aback by the event. Ms. Neelagiri said she was deeply hurt by the remarks of Mr. Basavaraj and demanded that he be warned by the body. But Mr. Basavaraj wanted to know how non-members could enter the meeting hall. Terming their entry an insult to the council, he walked out of the meeting. He demanded that no one other than journalists and officials be allowed inside the hall when the meeting is on.
