Raja Hussain, Yogeswaran shine

RAMANATHAPURAM: Half-centuries by Raja Hussain (67) and Yogeswaran (56) helped Rajahs HSS defeat Columbu Alim Memorial HSS by 139 runs and enter the semifinals of the Ramanthapuram District inter-school cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The scores (Quarterfinals): Rajahs HSS 174 for two in 20 overs (Raja Hussain 67, Yogeswaran 56) bt Columbu Alim MHSS 35 in 7.3 overs.

AVMS MHSS 110 for eight in 20 overs bt Syed Ammal MHSS 65 in 17.3 overs.

Open chess

The Dindigul District Chess Association will conduct the Sri Gopalakrishna Naidu Kaveriammal Memorial Fide rating open chess tournament at Dindigul from Jan. 14 to 19. Contact S. Abdul Nazer, Secretary on 0451-2426005.

Brace by Jegan

At Tuticorin, a brace by striker Jegan and another goal by Venkatesan helped Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai defeat Port Trust, Tuticorin 3-0 and enter the semifinals of the Champion Club football tournament.

Customs, Chennai also made the last-four grade with a 2-0 win over Nethaji Sports Club, Chennai in another match.

Customs scored both the goals within 12 minutes of the start, Senthur scored in the 9th and Jeyakumar in the 12th minutes. Nethaji Sports Club fought hard thereafter to score but customs defence did not give way.

Siva hits 99

At Usilampatti, Subramania Siva's unbeaten 99 helped Majestic CC (Madurai) score a 92-run victory over SRI (Tiruchi) in the final of the Raja Durai Ambalam Memorial trophy cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores: Majestic C.C 208 for eight in 33 overs (Subramania Siva 99 not out, Sasikumar four for 36) bt Southern Rly Inst. Tiruchi 116 in 24.3 overs (Rajesh four for 24).

Easy for Senthilkumar FC

Senthilkumar Memorial Football Club gained full points defeating Railway Institute 2-0 in the Madurai DFA `B' division league at Madurai on Saturday. Kumar (22nd) and Christ (43rd) scored.

In the `C' division matches, Ismail Memorial FC and Golden Star FC were involved in a goalless draw, while Latha Mathavan Polyechnic beat High Court Football Club 1-0, Raja Safique scoring.

Red Rose posts win

ded Rose Hockey Club, Virudhunagar posted a 2-1 victory over Rajapalayam Blues Hockey Club in the Virudhunagar district level hockey league at Virudhunagar on Saturday. Sivasubramanain and Muthumurugan scored for Red Rose Club. Kannan scored for Rajapalayam team.

In another match, Best Friends Hockey Club, Rajapalayam thrashed Leo Hockey Club, Aruppukottai 7-0. Chelliah (3), Manikandan(2) and Balan(2) scored.

Double for Rajath

A. Rajath Kamal of Loyola College, Chennai, scored a double by winning the men's singles and doubles titles in the 34th State-level inter-collegiate table tennis tournament for the PSG Trophy in Coimbatore on Friday.
