CHENNAI: Burglars broke into a house in Old Washermanpet and made off with 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery. According to a complaint filed by Venkatesan, a resident of Ramanujar Street, the burglars broke into his house last night. He was out of town and his wife and daughter were at a private hospital when the burglars struck. Tondiarpet police are investigating. In another incident, burglars broke into a locked house in Chromepet and decamped with valuables. Police said Annapurna, a resident of Patel Street, was away in Bangalore. The worth of the valuables is yet to be ascertained. Three policemen in the security convoy of Health Minister Thalavai Sundaram were injured when the Minister was returning from Tirupathi. The car the Minister was in swerved to avoid cattle on the road near Thirumullaivoyal around 4 a.m. on Saturday. The security vehicle that was following also swerved suddenly and hit the compound wall of the Avadi Heavy Vehicles Factory. Sub-inspector Jayaraj and the drivers Bala and Balaji were injured. They were admitted to a private hospital by the Avadi police.
