MUMBAI: Reliance Infocomm, the country's largest private sector wireless operator, on Sunday announced a new tariff plan that breaks the circle barrier and could trigger another tariff war in the cellular phone industry. The company's `one-nation, one tariff' plan enables calls from Reliance IndiaMobile prepaid anywhere-to-anywhere across India at just one rupee a minute to any mobile or a landline. Announcing the initiative here, S.P.Shukla, President - Wireless, Reliance Infocomm said, ``It is our New Year gift to our millions of subscribers. Coming close on the heels of the lifetime validity voucher, this aggressive plan will further increase the options for our subscribers.'' The plan will be applicable on e-Recharge of Rs 1,100, inclusive of service tax. This e-Recharge comes bundled with 1,100 free SMSs that can be sent to any phone within the state. Effectively, the talk time is for Rs 750 allowing 750 minutes of calls. A similar plan is available for postpaid subscribers on New Joy 499. This plan allows making of calls anywhere in the country to any mobile or fixed line phone at just one rupee per minute. They can also call any Reliance IndiaMobile within the state at 40 paise per minute. The new initiative comes close on the heels of Reliance Infocomm's Rs. 180 SMS top-up voucher that allows 18,000 SMS that can be sent in a six month validity period. Mr. Shukla said ``we will be able to sustain the ARPUs (average revenues per user). The profile of the customer is typically one who travels or has business, family or frients outside the state.'' Reliance Infocomm is the flagship company of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises group with a pan-India presence across 4,500 towns and has a subscriber base of 17 million.
