GOOD DRAW: A view of the exhibition.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ethnic and indigenous handicraft items are becoming the cynosure of all eyes at the ongoing All India Crafts Fair at the VJT Hall in the city. Models of traditional artefacts such as the `chellappetti', `Nirapara' and jewel-boxes made of teak, sandalwood, white silver and idols of gods and goddesses are also among items that are hogging the attention of visitors. The exhibition also displays exotic looking terracotta wind chimes; hand-made bangles from Jaipur; traditional dancing dolls from Kolkata, Rajasthan and Orissa; stone-studded ornaments and pearls from Hyderabad; and Kashmiri outfits. Nearly 70 stalls from various parts of the country are represented at the fair. Organised by Surabhi, the Kerala State Handicrafts Apex Co-operative Society, the exhibition was inaugurated by Minister for Local Self Government Kutty Ahammed Kutty on December 21. The fair is aimed at providing a venue for artisans to exhibit and sell their products without the intervention of middlemen. The fair will conclude on January 6.
