BEIJING: The Chinese central government Web site, www.gov.cn, was officially launched at zero hour on Sunday. The Web site, which went into trial operation on October 1, 2005, aims at providing a platform for the departments under the State Council, and the provincial, autonomous regional and municipal governments across the country to release information on government affairs and provide online services. The site has four sections. The section of information about government affairs is for providing information on work, including policies and documents. The service section provides online services for citizens, enterprises and foreigners. The section offers communication channels between the Government and citizens. The section of applied functions provides surfers with a search engine. Xinhua
