Nagercoil : The Water Resource Organisation has sent a Rs.10-crore proposal to the Government for implementation of four irrigation schemes in different parts of Thovalai taluk in Kanyakumari district, said Collector Sunil Paliwal. Inspecting the areas where four irrigation schemes were going to be executed, the Collector said that it was decided to renovate Kalvettu tank at Navalkadu at a total cost of Rs.28 lakhs to supply water to the Anandanar channel. A sum of Rs.1.66 crores would be spent on constructing a checkdam across Varattaru and Devendrankal Odai to supply water to the Thovalai channel. The district administration has to acquire nine acres of paddyfield and one acre of coconut grove for construction of check-dam. The Public Works Department had also sent Rs.2.12-crore proposal for construction of a check-dam near Manjamalai near Anandapuram to divert water to the Thovalai channel for the benefit of farmers to take up agricultural operations. A Rs.5-crore proposal had also been sent to the Government to desilt and renovate the Kollenkaderi tank near Anandapuram to distribute water to the Thovalai channel to make use of it for irrigation purpose.
