Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Girijan Sangham has condemned the remarks made by Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah that permission of the gram sabha was not necessary for taking up construction of irrigation projects.

The sangham general secretary, R. Sriram Naik, in a statement issued here on Sunday, said the Minister's remarks were against the Supreme Court direction, which clearly stated that permission from the gram sabha was mandatory before new irrigation projects were constructed.
