Letters to the Editor
Rajnath Singh's selection as the new president of the BJP has come as a whiff of fresh air. The real test for Mr. Singh, who proved to be an able administrator as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, will be now as president of the main Opposition party. His goal should be to offer constructive cooperation to the Government, instead of harping on the BJP's ideological roots and such else.
K.M.G. Vivekanandam,
I congratulate Mr. Singh for taking over the BJP's leadership at a time when the party is passing though a crisis. It is hoped the new leader will measure up to the task.
Gangadhar B.N.,
It will be interesting to see how well Mr. Singh will fit into the shoes of his predecessor. The BJP's image so far was linked to the powerful charisma of leaders such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani. Now that Mr. Vajpayee has pulled himself out of active politics and Mr. Advani is no longer at the helm, the leadership qualities of the party's second-rung leaders will be put to the test.
Md. Yasin,
