Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial, `Building institutional security,' (Dec. 31). I agree that an educational and research institution cannot and should not be dressed up like a military base. Any measures taken must be as inconspicuous as possible. Too much security will prove to be obtrusive and will impinge on the free and open environment that scholarship thrives in. Moreover, as the editorial correctly points out, absolute security is simply not possible and it will be yet another instance of merely addressing the symptoms and not the root of terrorism.
Rohit Chhiber,
The IISc attack needs to be condemned in the toughest language. However, this should not lead to excessive security and restrictions in scientific institutions.
Nitin Tanwar,
Deepti Kashyap,
Vishaal Vyas,
No other instance in the recent past comes to mind where an academic institute was attacked by terrorists. A fool-proof method to prevent such attacks in future should be evolved.
P.V. Satyanarayana,
