Turn it back

Congratulations for bringing out the facts about the decommissioned French aircraft carrier Clemenceau's last voyage to Indian shores (Jan. 1). International lawlessness seems to have found a perfect cover in the processes taking place under globalisation. Disposal of hazardous material is difficult in developed countries, given the vigilance of their environmental lobbies. So they simply ship the material to the Third World. While the prevarications and lies of the French Government are outrageous, it is scary that Indian companies are also involved, and that Indian authorities have been aware of and perhaps even been party to this distasteful deal.

Vasantha Surya,
Chennai
