BANGALORE: Karnataka Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh and the members of his family went through some anxious moments in the early hours of Monday following an anonymous call that a bomb had been planted at the Chief Minister's residence. The police said that around 2 a.m., a relative of the Chief Minister, residing in Gulbarga, received a call that a bomb had been planted in Mr. Dharam Singh's residence in Bangalore. He conveyed the message to the Chief Minister's residence here. The police immediately swung into action and conducted a thorough search of the house and the premises. "We did not find any explosive; the call turned out to be a hoax," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) G.B. Chebbi said. The Chief Minister was at his house when the police conducted the search, he said. The police said the call was traced to Bijapur and it was made from an Airtel mobile phone. The police are working with the company to identify the owner of the mobile phone. While it is said that the caller told Mr. Dharam Singh's relative that a bomb had also been planted at Hotel Grand Ashok adjoining the Chief Minister's residence, Mr. Chebbi denied it.
Security stepped up
Gulbarga Special Correspondent reports: The police have stepped up security at the Gulbarga and Nelogi residences of Mr. Dharam Singh in the light of a hoax call that a bomb had been placed in the official residence of the Chief Minister in Bangalore. Superintendent of Police K. Ramachandra Rao said the security at the Gulbarga residence of Mr. Singh has been stepped up and police cover has also been given to Mr. Singh's residence in Nelogi village in Jewargi taluk.
Search continues
Continuing their hunt for the terrorists, who attacked the Indian Institute of Science here, the city police are questioning several people. Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh told presspersons on Monday that though the police are questioning a large number of persons, they have not arrested any one so far as reported in a section of the media. He said he is not aware of any arrests made by the Hyderabad police. He said he is in constant touch with his counterparts in other States and Central intelligence agencies.
