NEW DELHI: Continuing his fine run, Parimarjan Negi proved equal to Serbia's Grandmaster Milos Pavlovic in the fifth round of the Hastings Masters chess tournament and shared the lead with seven others in Hastings, United Kingdom, on Sunday. Negi has four points and needs another 2.5 points from the next four rounds to gain his maiden nine-game GM norm. The 12-year-old Delhi boy, who made history on Saturday by becoming the youngest International Master in the game by beating second seed Sergey Erenburg, was comfortable right through the 36-move deadlock in Sicilian Defence against Pavlovic. The draw was agreed soon after the eighth seeded Pavlovic regained a pawn and both players were left with a bishop and five pawns each. In the sixth round, Negi plays black against third seed Valerij Neverov. On the lower boards, Gurpreet Pal Singh defeated England's Jessie Gilbert to reach three points while Sahaj Grover opened his account with a draw against Mark Rich.
