Naxalism hindering progress: Jana

Inaugurates police outpost at Chandampet

  • Jana urges people to help Government maintain law and order
  • Extends financial aid to surrendered naxalites

NALGONDA: Notwithstanding the threat from Maoists, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy visited Chandampet and Pedda Adisarlapally mandal headquarters amid heavy security on Monday.

He inaugurated a police outpost and Mandal Revenue Office building constructed at a cost of Rs.14 lakhs at Chandampet and launched works for a road to be laid between Chandampet and Pogilla.

He also inaugurated Mandal Praja Parishad building and hostel and laid foundation stones to a community hall and a school at PA Pally.

Addressing a public meeting at Chandampet, the Home Minister asked Maoists to support the Government's endeavour for the uplift of the downtrodden. "We are also trying our best for the welfare of the poor. Your movement is hindering the development of the drought-hit region," he said, and urged people to extend their support in maintaining law and order.

    CPI activists' plea

Some CPI activists tried to disrupt the meeting, demanding that the Government take up the Akkampally and Nakkalagunta lift irrigation schemes and increase the capacity of the Srisailam tunnel. The Home Minister assured them of taking up the issue after taking to the MLAs representing the district.

He distributed Rs.20,000 each to the four surrendered naxalites - Gundala Vishnu, Akkaboyina Krishna, Seetha Yellaiah and Goddala Eedi Ramulu - and advised them to lead a peaceful life.

Nalgonda MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, local MLA Ravinder Naik, DCCB Chairman Vijayender Reddy, Collector K. Vijayanand, SP M.M. Bhagwat and OSD P. Viswaprasad accompanied the Minister.

Mr. Bhagwat asked people to make good use of the police outpost. The outpost was moved to Devarakonda in the face of escalation in naxal operations in the division in 1999.
