Mobile phones seized at airport

KOZHIKODE: Perfumes and sophisticated mobile telephones estimated to be worth Rs.6,81 lakhs were seized from a passenger who arrived at Calicut airport on New Year Day from Dubai.

The passenger had reached the airport by a flight from Dubai. Acting on a tip-off, personnel of the Air Intelligence unit of Customs at Calicut airport intercepted Shetty Kaprigudda Krishnaprasad, a resident in 110, Anand Nivas, Dr. E Moses Road, Worli, Mumbai at the exit gate of Calicut airport.

The passenger had opted for green channel by declaring the value of goods in his possession as "nil." However, Customs personnel who checked the baggage found Nokia brand Communicator mobile phones and costly perfumes. On interrogation the passenger owned up the offence.
