PANAJI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sought a judicial inquiry into the events leading to lynching of a businessman at Saleli village in North Goa last week. Addressing presspersons on Monday, the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Manohar Parrikar, said the magisterial inquiry announced by the Chief Minister, Pratapsing Rane, will not be able to bring out the truth. He urged the Government to order an inquiry by a retired judge. Mr. Parrikar, who visited the village where tension prevails, said the real issue is not stone crushers, but the people's frustration over land titles. While backing the agitation, Mr. Parrikar hoped that all political parties would help in resolving the problems faced by the people.
Demand
Mr. Parrikar demanded that the Government bring in land ceiling legislation and do away with "Mokasdari" (a unique form of feudal land-ownership at Sattari and Pernem in North Goa) which is opposed by the villagers.
