Assistance distributed

Tuticorin: Collector V. Chandrasekaran distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.5.62 lakhs to 69 beneficiaries under various schemes at the grievance day meeting held here on Monday.

Sources said 26 farmers of Kovilpatti, Ettayapuram and Vilathikulam blocks received Rs.1.30 lakhs as marriage assistance under "Uzhavar Pathukappu Thittam."

While women beneficiaries got Rs.5,000 each, men received Rs.3,000 each.

Mr. Chandrasekaran gave away "revolving fund subsidy" worth Rs. 25,000 each to four self-help groups (general) and disbursed revolving fund of Rs. 5,000 each to three SHGs with conservancy workers as its members.

Free house site pattas worth Rs.3.14 lakhs were given to 23 persons hailing from Sinthalakattai in Ottapidaram block.

He disbursed the first instalment of monthly pension allotted to Abdul Jayalani (15), a physically challenged person, whose plight was brought to the notice of officials concerned during the last grievance day meeting.

Padma (60) of Alagesapuram received the first instalment of widow pension.

A tricycle was given to Jesintha, a differently abled person from Perunrani near here, using the funds earmarked under the District Welfare Committee.

The Collector said about 3,500 house-site pattas had so far been disbursed in the current fiscal after selecting eligible candidates from about 45,000 applications.
