68 Field Regiment takes honours

HYDERABAD: 68 Field Regiment clinched honours in the 54 Infantry Division inter-unit boxing championship held here on Monday by virtue of winning more gold after tying with 8 Assam Regiment with 22 points each.

With a huge crowd comprising supports from different contingents, the highpoint of the evening was when Rajesh Kumar Thapa of 7\8 GR and G. Damodara of 68 Field Regiment were tied with 15 points each in the welterweight category. There was little to choose between the two as each traded some wonderful left and right combinations which drew cheers from the respective camps. The tension in the two camps was palpable when the jury was working out its way to declare Damodara as the winner, which was done on a technical point.

S. Rambabu of 68 Field Regiment was another star attraction in the lightwelter weight category scoring a fluent 12-2 points victory against Jerusalem of 8 Assam with a brilliant blend of left and right hooks.

Lt. fly: A. Sevuga Pandian (68 Fd Regt) bt C. Ramachandran (35 Md Regt) on points.

Fly: K.G. Santosh (11 Madras) bt A.N. Sangaiah (61 Med Regt) on points.

Bantam: K. Phillip Singh (8 Assam) bt Jatinder Singh (67 Amd Regt) RSC, first round.

Feather: T. Thomas (11 Madras) bt Nick Sailo (8 Assam) RSC, first round.

Light: Man Bahadur Kumal (7\8 GR) bt Vinod Mirza (8 Assm Regt) 19-17.

Lt. welter: S.Rambabu (68 Fd Regt) bt Jerusalem (8 Assam) 12-2.

Welter: G. Damodara (68 Fd Regt) bt Rajesh Kumar Thapa (7\8 GR) 15-15, On technical grounds.

Middle: Anchal Thapa (7/8GR) bt Baj Singh (67 Armd Regt) 8-4 pts.
