Five arrested on charge of stealing electric poles, wire

RAICHUR: Raichur police on Monday arrested five persons in connection with theft cases reported in Hatti police station limits in Lingsugur taluk in the past two years. The names of the arrested were given as Raghunathsa (29), Khaja Mohiuddin (25), Mohammed Rafi (22), Shivappa, alias Habidali (25), and Lingappa (26), all from Lingsugur taluk.

The police said that the accused had allegedly stolen 12 electric poles along with 1.5 km wire all estimated at Rs. 25,000, from Gaddagi Cross to Tinthani Bridge and 20 main gates, name boards and control boards, all estimated at Rs. 45,000, from a lift irrigation scheme near Jaladurga, and sold them to a merchant. In 2003, the accused had stolen two 50 HP motors, a motor pump and gas cutters from a lift irrigation scheme near Gonwatla. The police have recovered motors and cylinders from the accused.
