CHANDIGARH: Haryana would soon become the first State in the country to have automatic tax collection centres on all its inter-State highways and thanks to new system, the revenue of the State would increase manifold, Haryana Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala told media persons at Panchkula near here on Monday. Initially such a centre would be set up at Jaisinghpur Khera in Rewari district, adjoining Rajasthan, and land had already been acquired for the purpose. Mr.Surjewala said that this new system would be functional in the State within the next 16 months. In all, nine places have been identified for these centres. Overloaded trucks entering Haryana from other states would have to pay tax at these centres. Also, such overloaded vehicles would be challaned. Not only this, the owners of such vehicles would have to bear the cost of unloading their overloaded vehicles and transfer the load to other vehicles. The overloaded vehicles would be fined Rs. 3,000 for first tonne of the overload and the rate of fine would increase in proportion to the load. Mr.Surjewala added that these automatic tax collection centres would have all modern amenities including weighing machines, camera and a computer connected to the head office to improve efficiency and maintain transparency. He disclosed that the Kalka bypass would soon be constructed on the demand raised by the Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan, and the people of the area.
Congress office-bearers
The Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan, said on Monday that the Chairmen of Boards and Corporations and office-bearers of the Haryana unit of the Congress would be appointed soon. Talking to media persons at Ambala, Mr. Chander Mohan said that the appointment of Congress Party office- bearers would be made jointly by his father and Haryana unit President, Bhajan Lal, and the Working President, Ram Parkash. He clarified that both the President and the Working President were working together for the betterment of the Party. Replying to a question, he said that his father was fit and active.
