Paryaya seer plans new road

Special Correspondent

Additional land to be acquired for better connectivity to Krishna temple

IN PIETY: Krishnapura swamiji being given a "thulabhara" in Mangalore by devotees on Monday.

MANGALORE: The new Paryaya swamiji, Vidyasagara Thirtha of Sri Krishnapura Mutt of Udupi, has said that a new road will be laid from lower Car Street to Kunjibettu Sharada Kalyana Mantapa during his Paryaya term.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, the swamiji said that as the roads to the Krishna temple were narrow, vehicles could not move freely. Pedestrian movement was also affected.

Traffic congestion

To ease traffic congestion on this road, steps will be taken to connect the parking area behind the Krishna temple to Vadiraja Road and further to Beedinagudde and towards Kunjibettu.

He said the Sri Krishna Mutt Parisara Abhivriddi Samithi has already made some headway in acquiring lands towards this end.

The swamiji said he would also complement the work of the Samithi and get additional lands to connect the two roads.

He said he was not in favour of disturbing the existing structures in the precincts of Krishna temple.

Visitors who come to the mutt should be given the best services and hassle-free procedures at the temple. He said he had plans for a range of "cultural programmes linked with religion" in the Krishna temple during the two-year period of Paryaya, where he wanted to give ample opportunities to artistes. Earlier, a group of devotees arranged a "thulabhara" for the swamiji at the residence of Chairman of the Kalkura Foundation and president of the Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat. The seer will be given a civic reception by citizens' committee on Tuesday at Town Hall.

Procession

He will be taken in a procession starting from Sharavu Ganapathy temple to Town Hall in the evening.

On Wednesday, he will proceed to Udupi town where he will perform the "Purapravesham".

After the Purapravesham, the swamiji's movement will be confined to Car Street for next two years.

He will perform pujas to the Krishna's idol thrice every day and will also preside over all temple functions and festivals. He will give "Patha Pravachanas" to students and devotees every evening at Badagu Malige inside the Krishna temple.
