One killed, 3 injured in accidents

MADURAI : One person was killed and three passengers sustained injuries in two different accidents involving Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses in the district on Monday.

In the first accident, a farmer, P. Pethanan (50) of Periya Poolampatti was fatally knocked down by a bus while he was engaged in thrashing of sorghum plants on Peraiyur-Usilampatti Road.

The driver, S. Shanmugavelu, was arrested.

In the second accident, a speeding lorry hit a town bus near the Madurai-Melur-Ring Road Junction, injuring three passengers, including two women.

The injured were admitted to a nearby private hospital. The lorry driver, R. Balaiah (40) of Tiruchi, was arrested.
