MADURAI : The Collector, D. Raajendiran, inaugurated a 10-day Khadi and Village Industries and State-level Rural Employment Generation Programme exhibition at the Gandhi Museum here on Monday. Addressing at the function, Mr. Raajendiran said that such exhibitions would help create an awareness among consumers of khadi and village industries products. Stating that consumers should know the quality and benefit of buying these products, he said those manning the stalls should make use of the opportunity to explain to the people the salient features of their products, to improve their market. The Collector stressed the importance of natural farming. The Assistant General Manager, NABARD, R. Srinivasan, said the timing of the exhibition coincided with the tourist season here. Domestic and foreign tourists who come to Gandhi Museum would certainly visit the expo, he added. The consumers, who buy KVIC products here would have a sense of satisfaction of having patronised rural employment. The KVIC Divisional Director, R. Rajan, said 18 khadi institutions and 16 REGP beneficiaries from various southern districts were participating. Khadi silk sarees, cotton khadi, khadi polyvastra, woollen khadi, muslin and village industries products, such as honey, jam, pickles, steel and wooden furniture and leather goods were displayed in the stalls.
