Sheila briefs Manmohan on demolition drive

Staff Reporter

Also informs him about meeting of newly-constituted Cong. panel

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and reportedly discussed the ongoing citywide demolition drive being carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. She also informed him about the meeting of the recently constituted four-member high-level committee of the Congress that is looking into the problem of unauthorised constructions.

Ms. Dikshit is believed to have presented her viewpoint on the drive to the Prime Minister and also about the differences between the MCD leaders and her Government over the issue. Ms. Dikshit has in favour of making the list of encroachments and illegal constructions public by putting it up on the MCD's website.

"Making the list public will make the process transparent and end confusion regarding the drive besides giving violators a chance to remove unauthorised constructions by themselves. The list should be made public under the Right to Information Act ," Ms. Dikshit told reporters at the Delhi Secretariat.
