Man held for misusing MHA sticker
It is learnt that on Monday evening, some security personnel deployed at Jaisalmer House spotted a Tata Indica bearing a photocopy of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) sticker. They informed the police, following which the car owner, Sanjay, was rounded up and taken to Tilak Marg police station for interrogation by a joint team of intelligence officials and the local police. While investigations revealed that the MHA sticker had expired, during interrogation, Sanjay allegedly disclosed that his former driver had pasted the sticker on the car and he had forgotten to remove it. The police registered a case against the car owner and arrested him.
Bomb hoax
According to the police, the call was received around 2-15 p.m. Some sandbags were placed around the suitcase and traffic was diverted for a while. The bomb disposal squad carried out a thorough checking and after 30 minutes, the call was declared a hoax. The suitcase was later traced to a Defence Colony resident and was handed over to him.
Transformer thieves arrested
According to the police, the suspects, identified as Pardeep, Sanjay, Deepak, Parmod, Rajender Singh and Hari Om, were arrested from Najafgarh on December 30 last. A Maruti car in which they were allegedly carrying a stolen transformer and another motorcycle were seized. The police said Sanjay, a scrap dealer having his shop near Indira Service Station on Dhansa Road in Najafgarh, had told Pardeep, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, that transformers had a fair amount of copper which he was ready to buy from them. Pardeep then roped in other four accomplices, all of whom used to indulge in petty thefts, into his gang and began stealing transformers. The gang would select a target and in the night park their vehicle beneath the transformer. Two of them used to climb the pole and unscrew its bolts. They would then throw it down. The copper would then be taken out and supplied to Sanjay. He used to pay them about Rs. 5,000 for each transformer.
Burglar jailed
Metropolitan Magistrate Raj Rani Mitra ordered judicial remand for Radhye Shyam alias Chotu who had been arrested in connection with the crime in sector 16 of Rohini. Police said that jewellery worth over Rs 1 lakh and a knife were recovered from his possession. SI Sunil Kumar, who is investigating the case, said that at least six similar cases were pending against him.
